Hanging Shelter, Taliesin West, AZ

The Hanging Shelter is a sleeping space for one person at Taliesin West. It was built as an open steel structure in 2001 by Fabian Mantel, and Fatma Elmalimpinar. Pranav added four wood frames that fit within the steel frame of the shelter. These hold up acrylic panels on three sides and a fabric door on the fourth. There is a stair to facilitate entry into the sleeping space. These stairs are fabricated in steel, with plywood treads.

The vents in the panels keep the structure cool during the day, the cloth door doubles as a shade device.

A very special thank you to Brian Maxwell, S Lloyd Natof, Victor Sidy, and Taliesin, The Frank Lloyd Wright School of architecture.
